Quiet weekend

What a nice treat a free weekend with no gigs, which is lucky as i've got the worst head cold!!
But been very busy with inquiries this week, quite a few for 2011 but also several for weddings over the next couple of months-the one's I cant do I will pass on to a couple of DJ's I know but people really are cutting it fine. I know brides like to get their dresses sorted first but once the venue is booked and confirmed, the evening entertainment should really be sourced and booked as soon as possible.

House Party

I have a house party on Sataurday which is something i'm always a little nervous about as is very difficult to control your working environment. It is easy for the party guests to get to close to my precious & very expensive disco equipment-to spill a pint or fall on a light stand. But this client seems like a really nice bloke & it's his 40th so shouldn't be too wild!!
I've been compilling his playlist all week and it's certainly different-it ranges from Chemical Brothers to Colin Blunstone. I've also been working on our new website so hopefully that will be up and running soon.

Well Christmas has come & gone & the New Year is shaping up to be a very busy one! Generally the first 3 months can be quiet but this year has been busy. I've had several 40th birthdays which have been great as the music preference has been mostly 80's & disco and some really great party anthems.... and such lovely clients as well.

Its great on the night of an event to see the dance floor packed but the real 'proof in the pudding' of client satisfaction is when they book you again. My lovely halloween couple have booked my for their 1st wedding anniversary so I need to start thinking about my fancy dress costume....and I've got a wedding and a 70th booked in the same month by the same family-a real party & kareoke family whose 18th I did for their daugther last year. So I must be doing something right....

So that's another year over....& a very good one I have to say. Those Party People had a very busy year & Those Beauty People started it's first year and is proving to be very popular for our brides to be.
I've got my dj rig just as I want it but no doubt will have to invest in some new toys!! Ive already got lots of jobs in for 2010 & even some in for 2011 for those very organised wedding couple.
Getting back to 2010- what some great weddings. I especially enjoyed the haloween themed wedding where I got to dress up as well(check out the photos). It was a great atmosphere & I've been booked for their anniversay

Haloween wedding

So Haloween is over....but what fun it was! I was lucky enough to be booked to provide the reception entertainment for a lovley couple's Haloween themed wedding. Sandra and Chris asked if I would dress the rig and myself to fit in with the theme and of course I had no hesitation in saying yes. I really enjoyed sourcing the decorations for the rig and went to my favourite party shop Sussex Parties who always do me proud. Got some huge skeletons that would glow under my new ultra violet lights and as you can see from the photos I've posted they look great.
The crowd did not leave the dancefloor all night and the atmosphere was superb. I'm now thinking if I ever make an honest woman of 'er indoors' then a Haloween theme it will be.

A Smashing Time

Apart from being a DJ, an actor and a dad I also front the band Smashing Time. Like most blokes I like to hang out with my mates, have a few beers and pretend to be a rock God...well I get to do this when the band get together and play a few gigs. We've been lucky enough to support some great bands and had some fantastic fun on the way.

2009 has been quiet for us due to other commitments but we've just had a track released on album released by Acid Jazz and 2010 is set to be a great year for us as with some great gigs lined up.

It's been a very busy summer with some great weddings and celebrations. It's slowing down a bit now but it will hot up again before Christmas and New Year. I'm looking forward to a wedding on on halloween night as I get to dress up and can decorate my rig to fit in with the clients halloween theme. It's gonna be a fun one...

Did a great wedding at Grittenham barn alongside a brilliant band called FIXED WHEEL. It was such a good vibe from start to finish, dancing all night and just a really up for it crowd.

I'm busy working on my music database and loving just being able to play with music in the solitude of my little room. I must get a life me thinks...

Started doing a lot more children's parties and really getting into the spirit by theming the music to child's chosen party theme-the next one has a rainbow theme so finding songs with colours of the rainbow in them or songs by Pink or Blue for example. I can add some rainbow decorations to the rig as well. I went to see those very helpful people at Sussex Parties in Horsham for all the trimmings. I think I'm the biggest kid of 'em all.

Wedding season is in full flight now so we are very busy but loving it as well. Did a great gig last week in the marquee at the Chalk Pit in Lewes for a 3oth birthday. Did Karaoke as well as the disco and they were having so much fun I was booked for a further 2 hours. Love it when that happens...

I'm doing an 18th tomorrow evening in Hastings so i'm looking forward to getting some good photo's and maybe some new video footage for the website. The missus has been working on the music database as i'm using a new cataloging system and I think she's had enough so better keep her sweet and book her a facial or something! There always seems to be something needs doing...actually I'm off to get new speakers next week. My present ones are great but so big and a DJ friend introduced me to some perfect, smaller models that won't break my back when setting up and taking down etc.

Bookings for next year are coming now which is great(makes me feel better when buying new lights and equipment that I probably don't need but just want).

Busy times

Well it's awhile since i've had anytime to get on her a 'blog'. But busy is good so i'm not complaining. Tonight i'm in Brighton providing the PA for Drag Queen Lee Tracey ay Topolino's so it will be a good'un. He's very quick witted and king or should I say 'queen' of the add-libbers. I'm starting to add Drageoke to Those Party People services which will be a huge hit( lee will be in the dress not me)!!

The missus has added www.thosebeautypeople.vpweb.co.uk to our services which is her line of work...she knows so many people in the business that it seems an obvious thing to do really. I know all the artists at her agency boast several celebs(and even royalty) amongst their clients.
We also have the For Sale and Hire page on the website as many of our brides want to sell on some of their wedding items after the big day.

Good news... next year I'm putting on a theatre production in Brighton with Mr Tracey but more details on that nearer the time. I've got a ton of weddings and parties plus a couple of Kareoke's and the radio show to deal with this year.
Anyway will sign out now as I've gotta get my glad rags on for tonight (but not the dress...I'll leave that to Lee)

I've been busy....
I need to sort out the rigs (shows) I can offer my clients just to make the whole booking process easier so they can see what they are getting for their event.
Luckily my folks are away and I have all my equipment set up in their sitting room (it's a huge room) and I've been able to sort out 2 rigs...they look bloody good! Rig 1 (the smallest) is better than most DJ'S main rig. I'm not boasting it just IS!
I've finished my new DJ booth and it looks fantastic. A friend who is an artist (he's actually sold work to Saatchi) made the frame and the cover and I have put the LED lights in. These frames cost over a grand from one company !! With mine I can change the cover to suit the brides colour scheme.
My new Karaoke machine turned up as I decided to buy my own as I'm always hiring which is not ideal. So now got to get on with all the cataloging! Got 2 Karaoke gigs in June...
The missus is now wanting to add more services to the company...as if there isn't enough to do. But more about that later. I'm now off to arrange a photo and video shoot for the new rigs and DJ booth. And they say the life of the DJ isn't glamorous!

A great day for me today because I'm doing what I love....playing with my DJ equipment! When I say 'playing' I mean 'working' as I'm really just looking at all the equipment and dividing it into rigs that will be used for different sized venue's as I'm just taking too much gear out with me at the moment. This will also effect our pricing structure and give our clients more choice. In these days of looking after every penny we need to give clients as many options as possible.

Ive purchased a Karaoke Machine over the weekend as we have two more bookings for 'a good ol' sing song' alongside the disco. The missus is getting a bit fed up with me spending more and more money on the business but I can't help it...they shouldn't keep making such pretty, sparkly, flashing lighting and the such should they?
